We'll highlight just a few cool events that will be taking place this summer that give you good reason to pay a visit to this popular beach community just two short hours South of the Bay Area. Pick one of these five events and start packing your bags: Sunshine Freestyle Surfabout, Carmel Art Festival & Sculpture in the Park, Big Sur International Marathon, Jazz at the Plaza, and Carmel Bach Festival.

Is the Pacific Ocean caressing a peninsula jetting from the California coast is that what Carmel-By-The-Sea brings to mind? Possibly it is the community of artists that have been a stable of its history. Perhaps the famous residents, like ex-mayor Clint Eastwood come to mind. And while those are all true, there are lots of other great reasons to visit Carmel California.


1. Big Sur International Maration - get your running shoes and shorts and participate in what Runner's World publication has picked one of the three best marathons in America plus the nation's Best Destination Marathon! The run goes from Big Sur to Carmel along picturesque Highway One, the nation's 1st nationally chosen Scenic Highway. It takes place on the 1st of May. 2. Carmel Art Festival - this is the eighteenth year when Carmel Art Festival holds its open to the public benefit function on May 12-15. Its objective is to educate as well as stimulate people of all ages concerning the visual arts. The Festival includes its well-liked Plein Air and Sculpture-in-the-Park events, in addition to a Quick Draw by the winning artists, and Kids Art Day. In addition to the structured functions many Carmel-by-the-Sea galleries have their unique shows to correspond with the Carmel Art Festival. 3. Sunshine Freestyle Annual SurfAbout Contest - longboard, skimboard, masters surfing, bodyboard, men's surfing and women's surfing are just a few of the competition categories. In the event you're a surfer come and be competitive. Otherwise, come to watch this incredibly well-liked event which is sponsored by Carmel's Sunshine Freestyle surf shop. 4. Jazz at the Plaza - its starts on July first and is no cost to enter. It's considered among Carmel's top summer time concert series. For $15 you can not only enjoy live jazz, but likewise tastings from nearby Monterey County wine makers, plus an interactive fashion shows every Friday evening through the summertime.

5. Carmel Bach Festival - now in their 74th season. This year will start a worldwide musical journey which will cover several years where the stage will be shared with well known and less well known composers. Perhaps it's time to try something new and make the trip for a new experience, not just the beauty of the coast.
