Carlsbad Therapist - How quickly does domestic abuse advance and escalate?

Domestic abuse or popularly known as “Domestic Violence” can be experienced by literally anyone. It could almost happen anywhere, such as in a workplace, a local neighborhood, and especially within the home. Domestic violence is any act which depicts violence in any given intimate relationship like friends, marriage, dating, and family. But the question is how fast do cases of domestic abuse happen? And what do we do to prevent it from happening over and over again? The first thing you should know is that anyone could be considered a perpetrator of domestic violence; whether it's your closest friend, relative, boyfriend/girlfriend, or even your parents. In regards to how fast domestic violence can happen? My answer, as a Carlsbad therapist, would be a split second.

Any person who gets irritated or enraged can easily become a perpetrator of domestically violent acts. Your beloved mom whom you trust your life with, if enraged, might slap you. Or your father who you look up to, if angered, may beat you relentlessly. You cannot prevent it from happening because you cannot literally read the minds of people, and in any case you cannot run before the violence occurs. All you can do is preventing it from happening again. If you had already experienced this kind of abuse and you just kept quiet about it because you’re scared to tell anyone. The chances are that this could happen again and again if there’s no one around who could prevent it from happening.

So the best thing you can do to prevent it from happening over and over is by telling someone who could protect you. Someone who would go the limit to make sure that you are safe. You could run to the nearest law enforcement officer and report your case so that a proper complaint would be used against the perpetrator. Also another place which you could run to would be any social service workers who are trained to protect you when these kinds of things happen. Seeing a trained Carlsbad therapist would be another option. Lastly if these three options are not of interest to you, then you can simply just tell a friend who you think could do these things for your protection.

If you're a victim of domestic violence you should always remember to do anything possible to prevent this from happening again. Keep in mind that there is always someone out there who cares and are willing to help you. Don’t blind yourself from the truth that you are being abused - because when that happens no one could ever help you for you yourself believe that there is already no hope.

Only you can make the choice to prevent abuse.

Also, if you're ever in need of immediate help, don't hesitate to dial 9-11.

Finally, a Carlsbad therapist from Sage Therapy Center will help you work through and prevent any cases of domestic violence you may be experiencing.

About the Author:
My name is Kristin Moorehead and I am the owner and founder of Sage Therapy Center in Carlsbad, CA. Over the past 10 years of seeing clients I’ve noticed that no matter if the client is an individual, teen, or couple there is always an issue with communication…or lack there of. People just don’t know how to communicate their feelings effectively or don’t communicate feelings at all, but instead verbalized criticisms and judgments. As a result, self esteem decreases, emotions are repressed, and resentment builds.
