Caring For A Billiard Table

By:

There are numerous different billiard tables out there ranging from seven to nine feet in length (usually) and three and a half to four and a half feet in width. The width of the billiard table should always be half the distance of the length.

If you are looking at one with proportions that do not reflect the equation W=1/2 L (width equals the length), then it is quite plausible that what you are looking at is, in fact, a coffee table. Coffee tables are great for coffee, hot chocolate, creamy confectionaries with refreshing drinks, so it is good to have one so you do not have to place your scalding hot drinks on your pool table.

Though a good coffee spill isn't going to affect anything but the cloth (or felt as it is sometimes called), it is still nice to keep the table in good condition for as long as possible. With time, however, the girls will start scraping holes in the cloth- that is just a fact.

Ok, maybe it is not a genuine fact. But after you get your pool table, instruct everyone as to the proper method of strike and follow.

Technique is not just important for winning, but it is also important to protect the table and the cue sticks. The cue balls are pretty durable, with modern technology and thermoset polymer resins you can chuck them on the ground without totally breaking them.

The only thing to be careful of with the pool balls, be careful that you do not purposefully throw the ball against a cement block with full force, doing that may cause damage to your pool balls depending on how strong you are and how powerful your throw is. With the pool sticks you will want to prevent them from getting curves and bends.

That may sound easy but it is actually much more difficult than you may think. If you have a wooden cue then you are done for, those things are going to bend no matter what you do.

Truthfully, no they aren't as long as you keep the room in a good steady temperature of 70 to 80 degrees and a good humidity that never gets to moist. Most sticks are just made out of wood, but there are some fancy ones that are coated in carbon fiber, graphite or fiberglass.

If you get one of the more expensive sticks the chance of it bowing with time will decrease exponentially. They will also last longer if you do not use them as swords or light sabers, so keep that in mind.
