By:

Headlights are considered the eyes of the car. It is located on the front and is one of the most essential parts of a vehicle. It enables you to see the road when you are driving at night; it is also used in severe weather conditions where visibility may be very low. Car headlights can be adjusted for different purposes. A low beam light setting is intended for the ordinary night drive. The low beam light is directed towards the eyes of other users to control glare while the high beam light doesn't have any particular control of light directed towards other road driver's eyes. High beam lights are best suitable when driving in one-way roads because one doesn't need to worry about other drivers being blinded by the glare of the high beam lights.

There are different types of car headlights used in the cars. Incandescent lamps were used in the past which are bulbs that use filament inside the glass and when heated up with electricity, produce light. These types of bulbs produce great heat with very little relative light which is wastes a lot of energy. Incandescent lamps are now being slowly replaced by Halogen bulbs. Halogen bulbs use similar process as the incandescent bulbs the only thing is Halogen bulbs utilize gas that brightens the output much more than the ordinary incandescent bulb. Another type of headlight is the HID or High Intensity Discharge lamps. They shine much brighter than overage light bulbs and are more durable than average ones. Also called as xenon headlamps, these are actually metal halide lamps that contain xenon gas. Rather than producing a glowing filament, HID lights produce a light with electric arc.

With the advancement in technology, there are a growing number of modern designs and different type of headlights that are currently available in the market. Regardless of the type of you car's headlight, one important thing is to make sure that your lights are adjusted properly so that you can clearly see the road during the night without it directly interfering with the other driver's eyesight that are traveling the opposite direction. It should be pointed in the correct direction and angled at an appropriate height. Another important thing is to regularly check your headlights to make sure that they are in good condition. Car owners often check other car parts but neglect to check their car's headlights. Inspect your headlights to make sure they are focused properly and are in good condition.
