Car Insurance With No Driver's License

By:

It can be very difficult to get car insurance with no driver's license. In fact many companies require that you have a driver's license before you can purchase car insurance. Still, the law requires that if you have a vehicle that is driven on public roadways that you have insurance. How can you get around this problem?

Although there are too many drivers that have lost their license that are still driving, lets assume for a few minutes that you own a vehicle for your own convenience but do not have a driver's license. Either you pay someone to drive you to your appointments in your own vehicle or have a friend or relative that volunteers to take you to the places you need to go. As the owner of the vehicle, you have to have insurance on the vehicle. How can you get it.

There are some insurance companies that will actually write policies for vehicles whose owners do not have a driver's license. You may pay more for insurance, but you can purchase the insurance and keep it in effect in order to have your car driven legally.

Another option is to find a relative or friend, possibly the person that drives your vehicle the most and ask them to include the vehicle on their policy. You may be able to make an agreement with the person to pay for your portion of the insurance. Alternately, you could have the licensed driver purchase a separate policy that is in your name for which you pay the premium.

Some companies do charge more for insuring a vehicle that is not in the driver's name. Other companies refuse to insure such vehicles.

Another alternative is that many states allow you to meet the financial responsibility law for your state by placing a bond with the state. This can tie up a significant amount of money for as long as you own the car, but is a way that you are able to meet the financial responsibility laws of the state in which you live. If one of your drivers has an accident in your vehicle and is at fault, the bond money is used to ensure that you pay for the property damage and the medical expenses of persons involved in the accident.

Of course if your driver is not at fault, then the insurance of the other driver will pay for your medical expenses and property damage.
