After losing out to other European countries for a while in the 'places to holiday' stakes, Spain is back
on top and being promoted as the 'most affordable Eurozone' destination.

This is obviously going to delight Spanish resorts and tourist destinations as well as the hotel and
restaurant industries, not to mention the cheap airlines based in the UK. What does it mean to the
average Brit though, who may be thinking of visiting Spain this year?

To start with let's look at when is the best time to go, not August! Although this is the time most
people, especially those with children go on holiday, it's also the most expensive and the most
crowded.

It's expensive because the law of supply and demand means that with so many people competing for
flights, hotel rooms, self catering accommodation and Bed & Breakfast the owners can charge and get
a premium rate.

It's the same for car hire, with so many people flying into Spain the demand for hire cars in Spain also
increases and so the car hire companies can charge and get a premium rate. In fact because hire cars are
in shorter supply than accommodation booking early is really the only way to ensure you get a bargain!

Booking flights is another area that you need to book early if you want to travel in July and August,
these are the most popular months to travel because the weather is at it's hottest (which is not always
the same as best), this coupled with the school holidays make July and August the premium months.

Another time not to travel is of course any other school holiday, Easter, the May bank holiday and of
course the Half Term school holiday in October. That does however leave you with the rest of the year
not including Christmas and New Year.

September and may are usually beautiful months in Spain, with warm days and balmy evenings, low to
no humidity and less crowded beaches.

April and October if you're in Andalucia are also great months to visit as long as you avoid the actual
official holiday times. It's also in these months that you may find fantastic bargains at Travel Agents
for last minute breaks. These could be flights, hotels, or complete packages and it's always worth
looking for these if you have the ability to go away at very short notice.

So with Spain being the destination of choice for many Brits this year (and probably next) the best way
to enjoy you Spanish holiday is to book early to avoid disappointment!
