Car Accidents And Weather Conditions And What Drivers Should Know

By:

When weather conditions are less than favorable it is wise to slow down and use extra caution. If you do not have to be out in the poor weather it is best to stay at home or at the place you are at and save yourself from the hassle of a car accident.

When the weather is poor, car accidents increase dramatically due to different factors.

Poor weather conditions may decrease visibility. Rain, fog and snow are three contributors to this. Rain can come down so hard that a driver cannot see anything in front of him or her. When this happens it is best to pull over to the side of the road until the rain lets up. Fog can reduce visibility as drivers may not see each others headlights. Even if it is not snowing, previous snow may cause slushy roads. The slush can be tossed up on drivers windshields, from oncoming cars, causing less visibility.

To help make driving as safe as possible, make sure you have the blue windshield solvent in your vehicle. With all of the dirt and salt during poor weather, each driver should be prepared to keep visibility high.

Be careful driving when experiencing strong winds. Strong winds can pull you over into the other drivers lane. If there is snow on the ground, strong winds can cause significant blowing and drifting. Blowing and drifting can make it hard to see where your driving lane is or even cause white-out due to the snow. With blowing and drifting one must drive safely as ice patches may be under the snow that is not visible to the driver.

Car accidents and weather conditions will bring out different types of drivers. You may be in front of a driver that thinks he or she can speed right along. He or she will most likely pass others when it is not safe. When speeding during poor weather conditions, if this person has to stop suddenly, he or she will most likely collide with the other vehicle or object he/she is trying to avoid.

Other types of drivers are those that are overly cautious. These drivers form lines of vehicles behind them due to their slow paced driving for weather conditions that are not as bad as they think they are. This makes it more difficult for other drivers as the traction on their vehicles may not help them to get through snowy road areas at such a slow speed. This person may cause more accidents because people will try to pass them and other vehicles may slide to the side of the road or into another vehicle due to the poor traction.
