The Cape Town Stadium is located between the iconic landmarks of Table Mountain and Robben Island. The newly built stadium is stately in structure and defines the Cape Town skyline with its sweeping silhouette. Branded "perfect" by World Cup organisers, the Cape Town Stadium is well-equipped to host the beautiful game.

The mega structure was built over a period of 33 months, at a cost of R4.4 billion. It replaces the 18,000 seat Green Point stadium, which was demolished in 2007.

Location
The stadium is located in the Green Point common, in close proximity to the V&A Waterfront and bustling Somerset Road, lined with restaurants, pubs, clubs, shopping centres and accommodation establishments.

Rapid transport services will be in operation during the 2010 Soccer World Cup, offering visitors and residents scheduled bus services to and from the stadium.

Capacity
During the 2010 World Cup, Cape Town Stadium will host a capacity crowd of 68,000 spectators. 55,000 Of these seats will remain permanently after the event. Visitors will enter the stadium via entry turnstiles, of which there are 115. The stadium offers 1,200 parking spaces in the underground facility and 16 lifts service the stadium. The stadiums facilities include 360 urinals and 500 toilets.

In the unlikely event of an emergency, the stadium can be evacuated in 15 minutes, even at full capacity. This is due to strict regulations and safety design features of the Cape Town Stadium.

Design
The Cape Town Stadium's spectacular design is the collaborative product of local and German architects. The stadium is dubbed the 'diva of Cape Town' due to its dramatic architectural design. The stadium is comprised of a Teflon coated, woven fibreglass mesh that filters natural light. The faade has the ability to reflect the fleeting moods of the city in ever-changing weather conditions.

The stadium has been designed to offer excellent viewing from all seats in the stadium. Spectators will feel close to the game and enjoy the electric atmosphere in the spectacular venue.

The Cape Town Stadium is the first in the world to boast a glass ceiling. The 37,000 square metre roof's thick glass panels will protect spectators from the elements. Natural light shines through the panels and woven PVC ceiling panels beneath the glass soften noise from within. This impressive stadium roof weighs a hefty 4,700 tons.

Safety
A state-of-the-art camera surveillance system will be monitored by police in the Venue Operations Centre within the stadium. Spectators will be protected by police officers stationed in the stadium.

A wide moat encircles the playing field to deter pitch invasions. Unruly spectators, hooligans and criminals will be escorted to the police station and adjoining prison cells.

Green features
Cape Town Stadium proudly meets high standards of environmental protection. 95% of the former Green Point Stadium's components were recycled and reused after demolishment. Water-saving solutions have been incorporated, including the use of collected water from the stadium roof and drainage, which is used in the surrounding ponds in the Green Point common.

After the World Cup
The Cape Town Stadium is a world-class site that will provide the city of Cape Town with a versatile venue in the years to come. The stadium has the potential to host other sporting events, music concerts, festivals, community events and cultural gatherings. The stadium is certain to be a premier destination for local and international events alike.

The Cape Town stadium will host eight World Cup games, including a semi-final. The venue, also known as the African Renaissance Stadium, is ready to welcome the world. Equipped with world-class facilities, ground-breaking designs and offering exceptional viewing, the Cape Town Stadium is the gem in the crown of South African stadia.
