Canon Vs Nikon - 60d Or D7000

What are the possibilities that there are camera spies? People who are paid to accumulate information from competitors' private vaults? Would they stoop so low as to pay for inside secrets? It actually seems to be the issue in the 60D vs D7000 comparison. What if it is a scheme cunningly planned to cause indecision among the camera buying public?

Each of these models came out within a two week period. And there are so many ways these two cameras are alike, it is almost as if the same design team came up with the specifications for the engineers of BOTH companies to produce. Is it too bizarre to think that Nikon and Canon use the exact same designers? That would explain the uncanny way the two cameras are nearly identical.

Even though the two have lots of identical features, there are some differences. What would it take to draw you to one side or the other? We shall deal with this question now.

Much has been made of the similarities, but, yes, there are dissimilarities as well. And those differences will be listed in a nutshell right here.

1. Image Resolution - How many megapixels? The Canon 60D has an 18-megapixel sensor while the Nikon D7000 has a 16.2-megapixel sensor. Not much of a difference here. In fact, not enough to get excited about at all.

2. LCD Display - The D7000 has a good LCD panel at 3" and excellent resolution, but the Canon 60D has the very desirable fully-articulating 3" LCD screen.

3. Flash - The Nikon D7000 has two extra flash modes not included on the Canon. These are slow sync flash and rear curtain. For those who use advanced flash features, this will make a difference.

4. Auto-Focus - The difference in focus points looks significant. There are 39 on the Nikon and only 9 on the Canon. However, not all 39 points are cross-reference focus points. In fact, both cameras have the same number of cross-type focus points, that being 9.

5. Continuous shooting rate - The Canon 60D has a continuous shooting rate of 5.3 frames per second, and the Nikon D7000 has a continuous rate to 6 frames per second. This difference is not really a game-changer for most photographers.

6. Construction - This feature is unquestionably a difference. In fact, this particular feature could be a deal breaker for some. The fascinating thing is that both Canon and Nikon went in opposite directions when they upgraded. On the Canon side, the new 60D is constructed with polycarbonate plastic material, whereas the older 50D was constructed with magnesium alloy metal. The Nikon D7000, on the other hand is made of magnesium alloy, but its predecessor, the D90 was constructed with plastic. Quite strange, don't you think? Maybe the design team got their memos crossed? But, positively for both models, it must be pointed out that both are environmentally sealed to prevent weather intrusion into the camera body.

Other differences exist, but they are not major, and some are also unique to that model.

As camera technology evolves, the quality of the image continues to improve. This continues to be the case with the Canon 60D Vs Nikon D7000. You will hear different scenarios depending on which forum you visit about whether Nikon or Canon is the best. One photographer will contend that Nikon is better when it comes to nature, and Canon is desirable for portraits. In fact, the argument could go either way.

The bottom line is that you need to weigh the features individually and come to your own conclusion about which digital SLR is best for your needs.

The price is different for the 60D and the D7000, and not by just a few dollars. Price fluctuates, and it depends on which day and the store you are visiting, this includes online stores and physical stores.
