Canon Rebel T3i (eos 600d) - Easy Learning Curve For New Photographers

By:

The new Canon Rebel T3i (aka 600D) digital camera is here, and quite honestly, it is the perfect camera for beginners who want creativeness as part of their photographic experience.

It seems that Canon has had the interests of new DSLR owners at heart in the development of the T3i, since they have added some features that should really be alluring to the unfamiliar DSLR camera buyer.

There are a couple of really good reasons that a majority of people have for buying their first digital SLR camera. In the first place, everybody knows that the image quality of a DSLR camera is far better than a compact digital camera. The use of interchaneable lenses for each photo opportunity is also key as a motivation for getting that first digital SLR camera.

Having the same hardware, including the 18 megapixel sensor and DIGIC 4 processor, the T3i looks identical to the T2i. Outwardly, the only evident difference is the swivel LCD panel. And inwardly, the hardware looks identical with an identical image sensor and processor.

Rather than changing the hardware, Canon has chosen to add to the software on this model. They have added "creativity a-plenty" in the T3i, beginning with an item they are calling "the Green Square." On the top mode dial, there is a new button that is green, hence the name Green Square. When you set the camera on the Green Square, you essentially give the camera Carte Blanche for control. The camera will make some very important decisions concerning light and sharpness to give you the very best image possible. And you don't need to do anything except frame and shoot. The Green Square name may or may not stick. The politically correct term for the green square is "Scene Intelligent Auto." It is pretty much the same as the Intelligent Auto setting on many high end compact digital cameras.

Scene Intelligent Auto automatically analyzes the proposed image area and makes decisions about camera settings. You, the new camera owner, can take some awesome shots right from the start.

Looks good, right? But wait, there's more! Basic+ is also a new feature that is available when the mode dial is set on a Basic Zone modes. With Basic+ the photographer has a choice for adding creativity to images with an Ambiance selection or a Lighting or Scene Type selection. The camera software takes over and makes you, the photographer, look like a pro.

Knowing that this camera has all the same features as the more professional cameras should make the T3i very interesting to those who are considering their first digital SLR, particularly if the hope of moving up to a more professional camera is the ultimate goal.

The best part is that a novice photographer can feel much more comfortable with the knowledge that he can "ease" into the digital SLR learning curve. Getting the settings right, when in doubt, can be left up to the camera. Then time can be spent leisurely learning when the shots are not critical.

Canon has reduced the pressure by providing new photographers professional features and convenience.
