Canon Imagerunner 1023 - Expandable Mfc

Canon often releases multifunctional centers in a series with different variations, each model being equipped with different features. In this case, the Canon ImageRunner 1023, there are two upgraded models also available on top of the base model. The Canon ImageRunner 1023N with built in networking, and the Canon ImageRunner 1023iF with upgraded memory capacity and a fax modem. Other than these slight differences, and the inclusion of an automatic document feeder, these models operate with the same specifications.

The Canon ImageRunner 1023 unfortunately comes equipped only with a platen cover that does not feature an automatic document feeder like its upgraded counterparts. This results in the inability to load multiple sheets at a single time into the machine, and larger copy or scan projects will have to be hand fed, one by one, drastically increasing overall time spent on a single work set. That being said, for users that dont often need to copy multiple input sources at one time, and often work in single passes, the lack of an ADF may be a welcome exclusion from the hardware, as it keeps the base model at a very affordable price.

Memory included runs at 128 MB or RAM in the base model, and 256 MB in the Canon ImageRunner 1023iF. This is due in part to the inclusion of the Super G3 fax modem in this model, which requires additional shared memory for features such as one touch dials, group dials, and an amazing 1000 pages worth of image memory. Again, if a fax modem is not a demand of your particular work set, the reduction in cost in the base model may be appealing.

A warm up time of 13.5 seconds and an even slower 16 seconds for the upgraded models seems very high for an MFC in this category, but with Canons rapid fusing system technology, an Energy Saver mode can be toggled that not only reduces warm up time to a lighting fast one second, it also cuts down on overall energy consumption when the printer is in frequent use, due to the reduction in start up power surges.

Copy and print speed are both very fast, clocking in at 23 pages per minute each. Unfortunately, without an automatic document feeder on the base model, it would be impossible to keep up with this pace when copying due to the limitations of hand feeding singles. Print and copy resolutions also match at the enhanced quality of 1200 x 600 dots per inch, though scan resolution maxes out at only 600 x 600 dots per inch.

Toner yield is actually quite high, at 8,400 images per cartridge at a conservative six percent yield, meaning its quite possible that a user would end up getting even more pages out of each toner cartridge, especially when the cost effective toner saver mode is utilized.

Canons ImageRunner 1023 series is a well engineered line intended for maximum versatility and user options. Theyve even left a slot open for expandable paper storage up to 500 additional sheets. No matter what your MFC demands are, chances are, this unit has a version suitable for you.
