Canon 100-400mm Lens - Telephoto Lens For Serious Photographers

Ever get green with envy? I truly do, especially when referring to my photographic camera gear. Now i'm drooling about a Canon 100-400mm lens currently. Next week, who knows. Yet one particular thing is for certain, it will probably be something.

Although I truly need to declare that the Canon 100-400mm lens has been on my hit list for awhile. I have some really good lenses, though. The truth is, I've got a Canon 70-200mm f4, which is probably my very best lens.

Some of the causes the Canon 100-400mm lens tops the list as my next purchase:

1. The zoom range is exactly best suited pertaining to my demands. I shoot loads of bird photos, and at this time I need to think of creative ways to get closer. The zoom to 400mm will be superior to the 200mm I am shooting with right now. Plus, whenever you put this lens upon any camera having a crop sensor, like a Digital rebel or 7D, you get 1.6x the actual expressed focal length (680mm). That is fantastic.

2. It is an L series lens. That's Canon's top quality lens group. You get better image quality, much better design, as well as other folks watching and appreciating your equipment (see the story down below).

3. Nature Photography needs a lens similar to this. For those who can't spend the money for prime lenses at 400 or 500mm, this particular lens could be the next best choice. I mentioned previously taking photos of birds, but a majority of natural subjects are not likely to just walk up close and say "cheese." You undoubtedly need a lens which will reach them. And once you're hiking through the wilds of Alaska or just walking through a nearby town, a telephoto lens with this length is just what you need.

So this is the story of my personal recent experience with "lens envy."

I'd been traveling to work at exactly the proper time in the morning hours for the sun being perfect for a specific shot I have been thinking about. It's a horse farm and stable that's close to the corner where I turn. There are a few stunning chestnut ponies grazing in the pasture on a sloping hill having a small barn in the foreground.

The horses were the exact photo I had been dreaming about. And So I stopped on the side of the road right after turning the corner. I got my Canon digital slr from the carrier and fastened my 70-200mm zoom lens to it. I proceeded to cross the road and take up my position alongside the fence. I snapped a couple of photos and shifted in order to shoot a few more. I checked the rear monitor to see how the shots were turning out.

All was good except I was a bit too far away from the hillside to get the shots I really wanted. I would have to crop them once I got them on my computer.

At that point I heard something to my left and glanced over to see another guy doing exactly what I was doing. He had a Canon and I could see the familiar grayish color and size of a Canon 100-400mm lens. I'm sure I turned green with envy.

We struck up a conversation, and he mentioned that my presence there had inspired him to stop and take some photos. Before I left, I got his card which had the web address I could go to in order to see the images he had shot that morning.

Needless to say, i was again so jealous when I saw them. Someday very soon, I'm sure that I will be opening a package that contains a Canon 100-400mm lens, perhaps it will be on some special occasion like my birthday or April 5th (the date is insignificant - any day will do). I have been dropping hints that my wife will pick up on, like writing this article.
