Canada Ereaders- Sit Back And Watch Them Go Away

By:

What are they like to read with? - that's the first question most people ask about Canada ereaders.

I also get people asking me what I mean by "Canada ereaders". What I'm referring to is ereaders you can buy in Canada. That's not necessarily all of them -- although I do think it includes the top two.

A lot of people seem to worry about having a device in their hands instead of an old-fashioned book for an hour or more. Believe me, you won't notice.

If you've never read from a Kindle 3 or a Kobo ereader and are not sure about it, the answer is the same - you are not going to notice it.

It only takes a few minutes -- usually spent thinking how great the E-Ink process is -- before the idea of reading off a screen and not a page of paper just goes out of your head. You just don't notice any difference.

In fact, the screen will disappear.

Is it a plane, it is a Kindle?

Face it, you don't sit holding a book looking at the paper, or the binding or the glue. And that makes the physical book disappear.

So the top objective for designers has been to make the ebook reader disappear -- just like a physical book -- so you can get lost in your reading, not the technology.

Most readers - certainly the Kindle 3 and the Kobo ereader -- are easy to hold even while you change positions or change hands. The very designation itself, "ebook readers" tends to bring long-form reading to mind. That means shifting position, changing reading angle, using just one hand.

Easy to hold, easy to love

Reviewers of the Kobo ereader usually point out how soft it is to hold. The Kindle goes one better and puts the page-turning buttons on both sides of the screen so you can turn the page regardless of which hand is holding the screen.

Unlike a laptop or a tablet, ebook readers consume hardly any power.

This not only lets them go for weeks on a single charge, but also means they never get warm in your hand.

Another big worry for most people is overall weight. The Kobo ereader and the KIndle in Canada are actually lighter than many paperbacks -- something you really appreciate if your book is a big fat, awkward one to hold. And the bigger the original book, the bigger the benefit from reading it on an ereader.

At 0.8cm, or one third of an inch, the Kindle 3 is thinner than most magazines.

Small wonder, after reading any of the Canada ereaders for a few minutes, you forget entirely about the technology and are engrossed in what you are reading. Instead, you are in the world the author has created for you.

The way it should be.
