Canada Ereaders- Now You See Them, You Now Do Not

By:

Most of the questions I get about Canada ereaders have to do with the reading experience.

I also find that people are not familiar with "Canada ereaders". What I'm referring to is ereaders you can buy in Canada. That's not necessarily all of them -- although I do think it includes the top two.

A lot of people seem to worry about having a device in their hands instead of an old-fashioned book for an hour or more. Believe me, you won't notice.

If you've never read from a Kindle 3 or a Kobo ereader and are not sure about it, the answer is the same - you are not going to notice it.

You will find you forget that you are reading an electronic screen and not a page of paper after spending the first minutes delighting in how truly easy to read the E Ink screens can be. It's not an issue.

The screen just goes away.

Is it a bird, is it a plane, is it a Kindle ?

When you think about it (and Amazon makes the point on its website) you don't notice the physical characteristics of a book when you read. You are now in the author's world and the book is no longer there.

As a result, the big goal for people designing ebook readers was to make them vanish -- so you get lost in the author's world and not in their marvellous technology!

Most readers - certainly the Kindle 3 and the Kobo ereader -- are easy to hold even while you change positions or change hands. The term "ebook reader" tends to make you assume long periods of reading. That conjures up changing positions, changing reading angle, switching hands etc.

Easy to love, easy to hold

Reviewers of the Kobo ereader usually point out how soft it is to hold. As for the Kindle 3, it has the page-turning button on both sides so that it doesn't matter which hand is holding the reader.

Unlike a laptop or a tablet, ebook readers consume hardly any power.

This not only lets them go for weeks on a single charge, but also means they never get warm in your hand.

Weight is another concern from people new to ebook readers. Both the Kindle in Canada and the Kobo ereader are amazingly light, lighter in fact than many paperbacks. You will really appreciate the Kobo ereader and the Kindle 3 if the ebook would have been a big, heavy paper book.

And they are also extremely thin - less than a centimetre thick which is thinner than a magazin

As a result, don't be surprised if you read one of the Canad ereaders for a few minutes and find that you have forgotten all about the screen and the technology. You never give the screen itself another thought.

Isn't that how it should be?
