For the most part, almost all of us are already making an effort to get rid of too much body weight but often times, what we really need is to have an effective exercise routine and a balanced diet. A balanced diet is ideally comprised of wise food choices, specifically, those food choices that are not fattening at all. But now, recent studies show that this alone is not enough. Research has shown that a flavor enhancer found in many conventional foods known as monosodium glutamate (MSG) causes weight gain and obesity in lab animals by damaging the appetite direction center in the area of the brain known as the hypothalamus, causing leptin resistance. Leptin is the hormone that rule how much a person feels like eating. The fullness, reward and satisfaction that come from having eaten is thoroughly lost when MSG is consumed, leading to n urge to eat that never stops. The conclusion that what was seen in the animal studies also applies to people.

Here are some lists of other names for MSG: (1) monosodium glutamate, monopotassium glutamate, glutamic acid; (2) anything that says hydrolyzed (such hydrolyzed vegetable protein); (3) anything that say autolized; (4) anything that says typical flavor or flavors, common flavoring; (5) calcium caseinate; (6) sodium caseinate; (7) yeast extract; (8) seasoning; (9) soy protein, wheat protein, whey protein and anything fortified protein; (10) textured protein; (11) carrageenan; (12) gelatin; (13) soy sauce; (14) bouillon, pork, chicken and beef; (15) barley malt, malt extract, maltodextrin; (16) enzymes; (17) corn syrup, corn starch, dextrose; (18) citric acid. For those individuals who are keen on weight loss and health pursuits, we seriously recommend that they should stay away with these labels.
