These giant batches of greeting cards become available for auction on eBay regularly. So, I resolved to use them as a backend sale item. Here's how I went about it.

I purchased an enormous lot of cards for around $0.02 each. I then put together an order form to market the cards for $0.20 each (you can always boost the price later). Each time I sent an item I sold on one of my online auctions, I just tucked in a sample greeting card & envelope along with an order form.

When my customer (high bidder) received item, they were surprised and pleased to find that I had enclosed a complimentary greeting card that they might be able to use (nice little gift). In addition, they were able to see that they could purchase more top notch cards, for only $0.20 each, in batches of 25. Since most cards usually go for two to three dollars each, that represented a savings of greater than 90%. That's a pretty attractive deal.

The cool thing about this system is that anybody who ever buys anything from me can become a lifetime customer. They might buy cards from me for a long time to come. My first "one-time" sale to my customer could turn into a lifetime revenue stream, as they reorder cards over and over again.

You can do the exact same thing. All you have to accomplish is source a consumable item that people buy, use up and buy again. Purchase the product on eBay for at a bargain price, or through a reliable wholesale source. Set up an order form that you can include with your eBay sales. Then, kick back and watch the cash roll in. Very cool!

Remember, your backend products don't need to be greeting cards. That is just an example of something I happened to notice. You may discover other fantastic consumable products that are a better match for the type of items you usually auction on eBay. What you want is to uncover products that people will buy from you again and again.

To summarize, backend sales is nothing more than the act of selling more products to buyers who recently purchased an item from you. The most advantageous time to approach a potential lifetime customer is when they are already happy with a recent purchase and they are in the "buying mood."

Remember, the ideal backend product must be consumable. At the time you capture a new customer, you want to offer him another product that he will need to reorder from you whenever he exhausts his supply. This will create lifetime buyers that can be the source of a never ending revenue stream for you.
