Can You Relight A Cigar?

By:

Smoking a cigar is an excellent pastime, but there can be situations that call for you to put out the cigar before you are actually finished with it. You are left with a partially smoked cigar and nagging questions about whether or not it is fine to relight that cigar when you get back to it. If you are contemplating whether that half-smoked cigar is an acceptable candidate for your torch cigar lighter, here's a bit of assistance in understanding just how to relight that smoke and get back to enjoying your pastime.

First, it is permissible to relight a cigar. However, there are a few steps that you will need to follow in order to obtain the best results. Before you place that torch cigar lighter to the foot of your stogie, you will need to know how to ensure your smoke tastes right. One school of thought holds that knocking all the ash off the foot and toasting the wrapper again is the best way to go about the process. Once the cigar is lit, supposedly blowing out through the cigar (as opposed to inhaling) is supposed to clear any buildup or tar that might have accumulated. However, this does not always work.

A better option is to use your cigar cutter and nip the tip. Cut just slightly behind the burn on the foot of your cigar, and this will leave you with unburned tobacco just waiting for the touch of your torch cigar lighter. Don't worry if the tobacco in the center of the cigar looks a bit darker than normal, it will still smoke just fine.

The problem with relighting a cigar is that inevitably there is a buildup of tar and moisture within the cigar. This leads to a change in aroma and flavor within the cigar and can reduce your enjoyment. Therefore, before you attempt to use your torch cigar lighter on that half-burned smoke, consider trimming it back. While this will not restore your cigar to pristine, perfect condition, it will lessen the odd taste of burned tobacco considerably. You will also find that this helps you save a bit of cash as smoking half of a premium cigar is an excellent way to throw money down the drain. By relighting your half-smoked cigars with the above method, you can extend your enjoyment and save a bit of green.
