Can You Really Build Your Own Solar Panel?

By:

Home energy costs have been rising at an alarming rate over the past few years. And your electric bill is no exception. This situation has more and more people looking into solar energy for their homes. Due to the exorbitant price tag associated with professionally installed solar energy systems, many folks could only wish that they could afford solar energy for their homes. Fortunately there is an efficient and affordable way to capture the power of the sun.

Anyone with an ounce of motivation can build their own solar panels for their homes. Building and installing your own solar panels will cost you about 90% less than premade professionally installed systems. Doing it yourself will enable you to obtain the design and scale that you want.

Once you do your homework and find a good set of plans and instruction manual, you're on your way to learning how to build your own solar panels. Most of the materials needed can be found at your local hardware store. Affordable solar (photo-voltaic) cells can be had over the internet or from a local retailer.

After you gather all the materials and learn how to make the panels, you're half way there. In about a day you'll be able to build a 100 watt panel. That's enough to power the appliances and lights in a typical home or a small workshop!

As I mentioned before, do your homework. It's very important that you research as many of these DIY kits as possible. Most of the time you get what you paid for. But the prices shouldn't vary by a whole lot. The information and the illustrations are where you'll have to study and then choose the product that you clearly and easily understand. The price doesn't mean a thing if the information is too high tech, or if you don't get enough of it.

Finally, it doesn't matter how much you pay or how good the kit is if you don't see it through. It's not rocket science! Just follow the directions and soon you'll be saying "WOW that wasn't so hard!"And so the next time the power goes out on your block, you can sit back and relax because your home is totally unaffected.
