Can You Make Money Blogging?

There are professional bloggers. Ten years ago, barely anyone knew what a web blog was, not to mention how to make money at it. Today, more and more people are attempting to find a source of income in blogging. Can you make money blogging? You certainly can, although without time, patience, and some real attention, the money you make might just be pocket change for a while.
The key to making money on the internet through blogging is knowing what people are looking for. That means you need to find a niche - a specific area about which you can blog daily, keep it informative and fresh, and pique peoples' interest enough to do the things that get you money for blogging.

Because there are a gazillions blogs out there, the ubiquitous mommy-blog style won't be enough to get you noticed. Not only do blogs on free sites not rank nearly at all in searches, but usually the blogs aren't specific enough to one topic to merit advertising that can make you money. You'll need to sit down and think about what you have some knowledge and expertise in (or where you would like to gain some), buy yourself a website, and then start working hard. Blogs that review products or offer really pithy tips about how to do certain things are very popular and can eventually yield a good chunk of change. Be prepared to post frequently, as well.

Posting daily is the best, but if you can't commit to a daily paragraph or two, make sure you are putting something new on your blog very regularly. Anyone who might help you make money is going to lose interest if you never put fresh content up, or you only put up something once in a while. You're fighting with millions of other bloggers for attention, so don't post once, sit back, and expect people all over the world to be automatically drawn to your brilliance.

As you gain followers and see more and more hits each month, you can add advertising to your blog. Some advertisements pay you a little bit every time one of your readers clicks on it, and other companies will pay for ad space. You can also do some free marketing for your blog by being a guest writer for other blogs. Some blogs welcome guest posts, and if you want to do some "bum marketing," find out what parameters your post will need to meet. Then write something that is not only informative, relevant to that blog, and interesting, but is also correctly spelled and follows the rules of grammar and punctuation (you tend to sound ignorant if you don't use basic stuff like that, and chances are your post won't get accepted).

While you won't be able to put in a plug for your book or blog or product, you are usually allowed a short author's profile at the end where you can include a very brief description of yourself and list your website. If people read your post and like your stuff, they just might click on the link to your website, which can increase your earnings. Hey, it's free!

There are many places on the website, including e-books you can buy and download, that have advice from well-paid bloggers. You can earn some pocket money or a living by blogging, but you have to know how to do it.
