Can Thermal Imaging Help To Save Energy?

By:

In the industrial age, each generation tries to explain to following generations what life was like without the significantly life changing technology newly invented. There is one thing all of these spectacular devices have in common as a basic input; electricity. Because of the sheer number of devices that depend on a sound electrical set up, thermal imaging surveys are important for safe operations.

Although every field of endeavor has its vulnerability and risks, business all share a concern over the safe and effective use of electricity. Everything from the local area network, manufacturing floor and the convenience of the break room depends on safe consistent electrical use. But as businesses grow, most do not have the knowledge to remain safely within their electrical infrastructure, and unaware of electrical vulnerabilities.

The unfortunate reality is that the misuse or overuse of electricity makes it the number one cause of industrial fires. For the most part, everyone involved in business is extremely good at what they do, but rarely is that production, maintenance or repair of electrical supply. Because of the standards enforced for building and business, most management rarely considers their electrical system when contemplating challenges to the operation.

When it comes to ensuring the electrical supply is safe, that is relegated to the group of people responsible fro promulgating and enforcing safety policy. And while these individuals are likely competent in the codes and standards required for the business, they are unlikely to be able to detect vulnerable systems. That is because the internal electrical functions of equipment are not part of their skill set.

Making the situation more complicates the fact that for most safety professionals to assess the status of equipment, it has to be shut down. Taking machinery down on a production line directly and negatively impacts the bottom line, and so it is a rare and brief occurrence. This leads to the possibility that the electrical systems get inadequate and infrequent observation by someone unlikely to really know if there is a problem.

This leaves industry with a very large problem. Ineffective, inefficient or incorrect electrical supply can mean a major loss of revenue. There is the possibility that too much electricity is used for a system, creating inefficiencies in expensive power supplies. Even more critical, there is a real and present danger of damaging equipment or initiating a catastrophic facility fire.

An alternate to guessing or relying on standard facility assessments to identify business threatening electrical anomalies is available. Conducting thermal imaging surveys is an option accomplished without shutting any piece of equipment down. This process allows experts to identify electrical problems anywhere in the system and help determine a process of mediation.
