Stainless steel grills are good looking particularly when they are new. All of your friends and relatives will be impressed with your stainless steel grill, so keep it clean and in excellent condition inside and out. However, you will soon find out how hard it is to maintain its beauty. By normal use the grill will accumulate dirt and stains on its surface that will be troublesome to remove and can negatively alter its overall look. You ought to know how to maintain a stainless steel grill clean. But first we need to answer the question - Can Stainless Steel Rust?

Many gas grills are made using steel and stainless steel. What is the difference between steel and stainless steel? First of all steel is made from iron and with varying amounts of carbon. It is a much stronger metal than iron. As most people know, when steel is exposed to water, it corrodes forming a brown iron oxide, better known as rust. Most grills rust because they are made with steel. Grills are normally only given one or two coats of paint. The paint simply chips and scratches and that is where the corrosion begins. Stainless steel was invented to prevent products from rusting; it is really corrosion resistant steel due to its nickel content and a chromium-rich oxide film. The content of nickel and the chromium film is what thwarts the stainless steel from rusting. Low quality stainless steel does not have enough nickel to keep it from rusting. But, it can be costly if it is of high quality with enough amounts of these two metals to prevent corrosion and rusting. Also, it will definitely rust if it has low quantities of these two metals. High quality stainless steel wont rust, but it is pricey.

Here are some tips on cleaning stainless steel grills. The exterior surfaces of these grills should to be cleaned as soon as they cool down. All excess dirt should be wiped off soon after the grill has cooled. The cleaning materials necessary are liquid hand soap and glass cleaner, plus paper towels and soft cotton cloths. First of all, fill both spray bottles with water. Now place 1 tablespoon of dish washing liquid to one of the spray bottles. Adjust the spray action to mist on both bottles. Mist the total surface with the mixture of water and liquid soap.

Using the soft cloth, gently wipe the surface. The spray bottle containing clear water should now be used to rinse the whole grill. So that spots will not appear, promptly rinse with water only. You can conclude the cleaning process with the second white cloth; wipe down the entire grill surface. Inspect the surface of the grill for any spots and fingerprints, spray with glass cleaner and wipe them clean using paper towels. You shouldn't commence cleaning the stainless steel until it has cooled and is cool to the touch.

Do not rub the surface vigorously or with steel wool or metal brushes since this will scratch the surface. If there are scratches try using a stainless steel polish, this may or may not entirely remove scratches on the surface.

Then follow those steps frequently to keep your stainless steel grill looking great for your next barbecue gathering.
