Can Music Play An Important Roll In Living Long And Healthy Too?

By:

Healthy living is most commonly defined by how physically healthy you are, right? For example, if you have a cold or are sick, you are considered unhealthy. If you are dealth a life altering disease such as H.I.V. or cancer, you are not healthy. But does this mean that it is entirely physical? Absolutely not! Your well being is also determined by your mental state. Think about this, the kind of music you listen to generally affects your personality type. Look at this great example: I listened to Hard Rock as a teen (most teens do) and was extremely wild, a trouble maker, full of energy, and lots of fun! Today I am more mature, I listen to softer music and I am more relaxed, laid back, carefree, and less energetic.

Let us focus on music and setting the mood. Again, going back to the heavy rock, how does it make you feel when you listen to it? I can tell you based on experience that metal music gets my adrenaline rushing, my heart pounding, my head pulsing. In short, it sends me into overdrive! Now, how do you feel when you listen to light music? Let me take you to the opposite side of the spectrum and use classical music as an example. While listening to a song written by Beethoven, what is your mood? I am generally feeling very classy, smart, makes me feel like learning, reading a novel, enriching my life. It is a totally different mood it puts me in. How about you?

Why would this make you live a longer life? The right kind of music can help your mood and personality improve, creating a positive and happy outlook on life. It is a true statement that a happier person lives an extended life and is in better mental and usually physical health than someone who is always concerned about something, upset, and discontent. The human body was not made to deal with stress all the time. This is where disease stems from. Think of the word, dis ease. This means there is not ease in the human body, stress can be the cause of this. Music could be the fix.

Music can be enjoyed by all. How wonderful do you feel when you hear your favorite song come on the radio or iPod? How do you feel when you hear a song you do not like? Not that good right?

Let us talk about movies. What about horror movies, what kind of soundtrack do they have? Most play really creepy high pitched, quick paced creepy music, others have gotten smart and have no music. This is genius because mentally, with no music, your mind plays tricks on you. Do you recall the movie The Blair Witch Project? It was a very low budget flick, and done with no soundtrack. Somehow it still had the capability of being one of the most popular and watched horror movies of its time.

What about those feel good movies? Next time you get a chance, watch Disneys Enchanted? It is a musical all in its own that has light, fluffy, dance in the street, kiss your neighbor, sweet music. It makes me feel extremely loving and uncharacteristically in the mood to sing in the streets. The writers knew what they were doing with this. As with most Disney movies the music is key. It puts the movie watches in a positive mind frame and gives them something to look forward to.

What about action movies, what type of music do they focus on? I would say fast paced rock, techno, heavy music? Look at one of the best action movies ever The Matrix. The theme song is a fast paced bass guitar riff. It puts you in the mind frame to conquer the world! Not necessarily a positive attitude, but still, makes me content at that time.

So, how do you tie this all in to living longer and healthier? Discover what makes you happy and concentrate your efforts on that type of music. Do not attempt to trick yourself; you know what it is that makes you feel the best. Enjoy this knowledge that you now have on living just a little bit healthier with music and share this with your friends.
