Can Las Vegas Be A Family-friendly Destination?

Las Vegas is usually not one of the first places most people think of when they are looking for a family-friendly vacation and in fact Las Vegas does not really market itself as such. Sin City is much better known for gambling, quick marriages and divorces, and its well developed adult entertainment industry which means it does not really need to market itself as a family destination.
Nevertheless, as the competition for tourist dollars has developed, a number of family-friendly options have no entered the scene and today it is entirely possible to have a brilliant time in Las Vegas even with the kids.

Are You Visiting For Yourself or For the Kids?

Everyone "" including busy parents "" need to take a break from time to time and everyone needs a vacation now and then. Therefore, before you decide to bring your children to Las Vegas, it is probably a good idea to think through your decision and determine whether or not the vacation is more for you or more for the kids.
Realistically, most vacation destinations that are designed for children "" Disney World for example "" may be wonderful fun for the kids but are not in any way relaxing for the parents. In fact, quite the opposite is frequently true, with children"s destinations resulting in a lot of stress and annoyance for the parents.

If after reflecting on the question you decide that the vacation is more for you than for the kids, then you will probably want to make your arrangements closer to all of the adult action: the casinos and bars. This means getting a place on or near the Las Vegas Strip or in the downtown area.
Conversely, if you really are going for a full family vacation then getting a place far removed from the Strip and downtown is probably what you should do. Not only are the places away from the casinos and hot spots less expensive, they are also more likely to be family-friendly and offer nearby amusements for the kids.

Attractions for the Kids

Whether the vacation is more for you or for the kids, you will inevitably be spending plenty of time with them and there are plenty of amusements in the center of the action that they will enjoy.
Younger children would probably love the things like the stage production of Disney"s The Lion King that is a regular event at Mandalay Bay, whereas older children will love the largest indoor theme park in the United States at Circus Circus. A little looking around online will show that Las Vegas offers many different stage shows, magic shows, amusement parks and other attractions that will be enjoyed by children of any age.

If the vacation is more for the whole family and you end up staying away from all of the adult amusements, there is still plenty to do. A simple Google search will pull up a number of child-friendly amusement parks and water parks scattered around Las Vegas. You can also take a day trip out into the desert to Red Rock Canyon or the Valley of Fire State Park.
Younger children might enjoy the Lied Discovery Children"s Museum, which is a fully interactive experienced that teaches your kids about the desert in an entertaining way. There are also a number of ways to go visit the Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam that leave from Las Vegas every day.
