Can I Wear Slim Fit Jeans After A Tummy Tuck?

By:

After a tummy tuck, a person's midsection becomes much narrower and tighter. One of the goals of patients after their operation is to be able to wear slim fit jeans. Slim fit jeans have been popular for many years and the pre-op bulging belly just won't fit into them. Everyone knows that they'll look a lot better in a swimsuit, but how about those skinny dungarees? Here are some things to think about:

-The tummy tuck operation: This procedure is also referred to as an abdominoplasty. An abdominoplasty is performed by a board certified plastic surgeon in a hospital or clinic. General anesthesia is the method of choice to keep a person pain-free during this operation. The patient will usually need to spend at least one night in the hospital after it's completed. During the tummy tuck, a surgeon will make an incision from hip to hip below the boxer or bikini line. Excess skin and fat will be removed and the internal girdle of connective tissue will also be tightened up. Inside the abdominal region, that girdle is part of the human body's design to hold all internal organs snuggly in place. What's in there, you ask? The intestines, bladder, kidneys, liver, bladder and uterus in females, among other things. All of these organs have substantial pooch potential without a tightening of the connective tissue girdle that's supposed to hold them in. Depending on how much redundant skin there is, the belly button may need to be repositioned into a more centralized position. After the operation, drains will be placed to eliminate fluids and reduce swelling. A compression garment will be worn to aid in healing. Within a couple of months, the midsection should be ready to rock.

-Slim-fits: These skinny pants are called an array of names such as pegs, skinnies, stovepipes and cigarette pants. They are tight from waist to ankle and look like stovepipes, pegs or cigarettes - hence the nicknames. They are often made of denim with a bit of spandex mixed in. Spandex is a stretchy fabric known for its stretchy feel. These slim pants became popular back in the 1950's and were worn by rock-and-rollers such as Elvis Presley. Band members from the sixties and seventies such as the Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols and the Clash all wore these styles, too. In the hippie culture, bell bottoms were more popular than pegs and you could often figure out what culture a person stood for by their pants.

-Comfort level of skinnies: Because these styles are so tight, some individuals have to lie down to zip them up. After a tummy tuck, there will be swelling and a bit of initial discomfort. During the first couple of months, it may be hard to squeeze into stovepipes but after a complete healing has occurred, they should be comfortable and attractive.

After patients have healed from their tummy tuck, they should be able to wear anything they want. Skinny jeans, pegs, stovepipes and cigarette pants are no exception.
