Do you rely on fresh, home grown herbs and spices to add a dash of flavor and color to your cooking? Would you like to always have a fresh supply of what you are looking for in your kitchen and on hand whenever you need them?

Half of a fresh bunch of parsley or a few sprigs of oregano always seems to be left over after a new venture. They wind up at the bottom of the drawer - a wilted, wasted mess.

I know that I can find most of these ingredients also in dried form, and in small containers, at most grocery stores, but I find that the flavor is never the same as if I had used fresh herbs in my culinary creations. Herb keepers claim to keep herbs fresh in your refrigerator or on your counter, extending their shelf lives up to three weeks. There are many different brands of these little gadgets available, but they all seem to be very similar. Most are cylindrical in design, and will suspend herbs with their roots touching the water. Most of these products to advise to not overfill the keepers, as overcrowding will cause damage to the leaves.

This is a superior herb storage method, more practical than just wrapping herbs in a wet towel as so many cooks do. Keeping the plant alive in fresh water keeps the flavor alive too; your taste buds will thank you. Many chefs keep herbs in a wet paper towel. This is to help keep the herbs fresher. This helps prevent wasting any more money. They absorb water through their stem systems. There are a number of different styles on the market that you'll be able to find. Typically you'll be able to find herbs in most grocers as well. They might be a pricey though.
