Can I Get Insurance On My Car Without A License? Yes You Can!

By:

A lot of people assume that you cannot get auto insurance cover if you do not have a valid driver's license. This is especially common with people who have recently immigrated, legally or illegally. If you have recently immigrated, you could well be asking yourself: Can I get insurance on my car without a license? The answer is yes.

You may have a driver's license for the previous country you lived in, but this will not be accepted in your new country. But when it comes to insuring your car, there are numerous insurance companies that will help you out. There is no law stating that unlicensed drivers cannot qualify for auto insurance.

Let's be honest ' if an unlicensed driver owns a car, he or she is going to drive it. And they may never be caught, unless of course they are involved in an accident or break a traffic law. Some insurance companies feel that it is far safer to insure an unlicensed driver.

Naturally this is quite a controversial subject and insurance companies are divided in their decisions. And what do other licensed drivers feel about this? If a licensed driver is involved in a collision with an unlicensed driver who has insurance, then at least the licensed driver will be able to claim on the other person's insurance.

Therefore it makes sense to encourage an unlicensed driver to get auto insurance cover. Many unlicensed drivers are struggling financially. This means that in the event of an unlicensed driver causing an accident, the chances are very slim that he or she will be in a financial position to pay for repairs to the other party's car. So again, it seems logical to insure an unlicensed driver.

Many unlicensed drivers are not even aware that they can get insurance. In addition they are fearful to make inquiries about insurance in case they are reported to the police. Insurance companies who deal with auto insurance are frankly not too concerned about this aspect. As long as a person has a valid identity document and proof of residence, they may qualify for auto insurance.

As with all licensed drivers, an unlicensed driver will have to meet certain requirements before obtaining auto insurance. Many factors will be taken into consideration. These include the age of the driver, the type of vehicle, whether the car has an alarm system, and if the vehicle is parked in a locked garage when not in use.
