Can Hypnosis Help Overcome Ptsd?

By:

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD is a condition experienced by a variety of people who have experienced extremely stressful situations. A stressful situation can be either one very intense event or the prolonged intensity of traumatic events. The symptoms are the same.

While most people associate PTSD with soldiers, PTSD occurs among a broad range of people. Even children who have experienced abuse or neglect can grow up to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder. Often the emotions of the experience are so incredibly intense the person has been unable to deal with them.

PTSD can be caused by a variety of situations:

* War
* Rape
* Natural disasters
* A car or plane crash
* Kidnapping
* Violent assault
* Sexual or physical abuse
* Medical procedures (especially in kids)

Hypnosis can be effective in the treatment of PTSD because of the ability, while under hypnosis, for a person to examine the event without the trauma of reliving the event by feeling all of the emotions. While under hypnosis it becomes easy to see the event from a detached view point allowing the brain to process the emotions in a natural way.

For instance, if a persons had PTSD after a car accident, a good way to overcome the trauma is to imagine what the accident would have looked like if you had been standing across the street. Then imagine what the accident looked like if you had been a block away. And then imagine the accident as it would have looked from a helicopter well above the accident.

By examining a situation from various points of views, hypnosis allows the person suffering from PTSD to file the information in the subconscious mind in a different way. By allowing the mind to process the event under hypnosis the subconscious can stop trying to bring it to the surface to be processed.

If you suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder it is imperative that you seek out treatment. Without treatment many people never regain that feeling of normalcy. The brain remains in a state of psychological shock that can adversely affect your entire life.
