Can Holding An Open House Help Me Sell My Home Quickly?

It's plain to see that one of the primary reasons homeowners hire real estate agents is to avoid dealing with any part of selling their own home. It's as though most people find the sales process offensive somehow. Do you agree? It might surprise you to hear that I am actually proud to market and to sell my home myself. I am amazed that so many homeowners would rather pay a real estate commission than participate in sales activities themselves.

So, homeowners often have their real estate agents hold an open house to attract attention to their homes. Have you ever attended an open house that a homeowner held on her own behalf? I'm guessing you have not, and although the primary reason may be a personal distaste for selling, it is a good bet that a homeowner simply never gave any thought to holding an open house herself. Let me tell you that holding an open house in your own home is a great idea that has worked for me many times. In case you have security concerns, deal with them immediately. Stowing valuables out of sight and ensuring that you will have at least one friend or relative in your home as a host with you are two simple, inexpensive solutions to security concerns.

If you have a large, expensive home you may want to hire security personnel. I generally hold my own open houses to sell my home by myself and have no security issues or losses. To date, I've had no security issues holding an open house to sell my home. After you select a date and time to hold your open house, you'll want to advertise it in your local newspaper, with online classifieds and possibly with flyers and posters distributed around your local neighborhood. Don't forget - even if your neighbors aren't interested in buying your home they may be acquainted with friends, relatives or coworkers who are looking for a home just like yours.

At your open house you'll get to know new people and be able to ask them if they know anybody else shopping for a new home in the area. This personal marketing method is called word-of-mouth and it is considered the best way to promote your home. Word-of mouth marketing means people are talking and doing your advertising for you! Holding an open house is absolutely the best way to generate word-of-mouth advertising by people who actually know what they are talking about because they have seen your home for themselves, and they are eager to share their "inside knowledge" with anyone who might be interested.
