Can Faith Based Programs Help Tobacco Smokers And Other Addicts Recover

By:

When people have serious addictions to things like drugs, alcohol, food or even smoking tobacco, it can be a life altering thing that is never for the good. People that have had enough of their particular vice will sometimes be willing to try almost anything to kick their habit whatever it might be. They can vow over and over again that they are going to get their life back under control, only to fail time after time. Once they have tried almost everything they know of, many of them turn to what they believe is divine intervention to help them finally win over their addiction.

Of course, this method of overcoming any addiction can only work as well as the depth of belief that the addict has in that divine intervention. A person must first of all believe in a higher power and have the faith that the higher power can cure them. Many people do not believe that spiritual guidance through a religion can cure people, but there are a lot of recovering addicts out there that would tell you differently.

There are so many spiritual and faith based recovery centers for addicts to turn to. They can enter into a program that is like most rehabilitation facilities except for the fact that much of that recovery is based on trusting in the higher power to help guide you, as well as provide you with the strength to carry on with treatment. Supposedly the way it helps an addict, whether they are a drug user, a smoker or whatever, is by making them feel that they are not in the problem by themselves and that their success is in large due to the higher power instead of resting solely on their own merits.

Whether or not a person can be successful treating an addiction with a faith based program all depends on the person and their belief. Some addicts go into these type of programs not really believing, but can sometimes come out with a whole new way of life. Even with these types of spiritual recovery programs there are addicts that do not get better and revert back to their addictions after a time or even immediately after leaving treatment. Whether one believes that these types of programs work or not, if only one person can be rehabilitated and set on the road to recovery and sobriety, it has to be safe to say that they do have their place since so many former addicts claim to have been cured because they put their addictions in the hands of a higher power.
