If you occasionally indulge yourself with an alcoholic beverage or dessert after dinner, you might really enjoy those things at the appropriate time of the day. You would think you had lost your mind if suddenly you began to have an alcoholic drink ten or twenty times a day or ate something sweet that often as well. Yet, that is exactly what cigarette smokers do. They can rarely be satisfied with an occasional cigarette. They can rarely be satisfied with five cigarettes a day. Most of them are doing good if they can keep themselves from smoking over a pack of cigarettes a day and there are twenty cigarettes in every pack!

The smoking ritual is individual to each and every smoker. Every smoker has certain times of the day and during or after certain activities when they think they absolutely have to have a cigarette. They could likely do without many of these cigarettes every day if they would only buckle down and do it. There is a nicotine addiction associated with smoking, of course, but it is the addiction to holding and inhaling from a cigarette that is just as much of the problem.

A cigarette smoker could train themselves to smoke a much smaller number of cigarettes each day in the same way that they trained themselves to indulge in smoking so many of them every day. Some smokers do this by counting out the number of cigarettes they do not want to exceed during a 24 hour period and do their best not to smoke more than that amount. Some smokers do it on a smoke by smoke basis. They set no specific number, but just try to make themselves aware of when they are lighting a cigarette and whether or not they feel that they can do without that particular smoke at that particular time. Either way, a smoker can smoke less cigarettes if they only put in the effort to reduce the number of times they smoke in a day.

Many tobacco cigarette smokers have turned to the electronic cigarette to help them reduce their smoking habit. The electronic cigarette has very few chemicals compared to tobacco and does not have tar. These are helpful benefits offered by the e cigarette. A smoker can take as few puffs from the device as they choose without worry of throwing away half a cigarette or more. Many e cigarette users find it easier to take only two or three puffs from an e cigarette and then put it away, where tobacco cigarette smokers often feel the need to smoke an entire cigarette so they do not waste their expensive tobacco. While using an electric cigarette does not cure your addiction to nicotine, many smokers found they can use less nicotine with this product and it is less painful to them than giving up nicotine and the smoking ritual all together.
