Are Acai Berries As Good As Everyone Says? The truth about Acai Superfood: The Acai berry is definitely a superfood. A quick search on the internet will show you that there are many people who view the Acai berry as a magical superfood capable of delivering astonishing health to anyone who regularly consumes a diet composed of them. Although there are thousands of testimonials from people who swear that incorporating the Acai superfood. into their diet has changed their life, there are also others who propose that these claims are unsubstantiated. The types of claims we're talking about include anti-aging, cancer prevention, weight loss, improved health of the heart, stronger bones and teeth and more. When it comes to this little dark purple grape sized fruit it can be difficult to determine which of the many claims are hype and which ones are fact. Although the Acai superfood are a common part of the diet where the Acai palm tree grows natively in Central and South America its introduction to western society is relatively new. For this reason the number of controlled studies to date have been limited and it is partly due to this fact that some people remain skeptical about the many health benefit claims.

Due to a number of unscrupulous marketers it is also true that some of the claims made about the Acai superfood may be grossly exaggerated or at least unsubstantiated. The antioxidant composition of the Acai berry is also a difficult one to comment on since there are many different studies on the subject and each seemingly has delivered different results. Some have indicated the Acai superfood have ten times the antioxidant potency of grapes whilst others indicate that whilst Acai is strong in antioxidants the difference isn't anything major compared to other high antioxidant foods and is perhaps only a little more than orange and apple juice.Fortunately antioxidant potency comparisons probably don't really matter when we consider that amongst all of the studies the comparisons are made against other antioxidant rich foods and that in each study there is consensus that Acai berries are extremely high in antioxidants. Since antioxidants are believed to be able to combat cancer causing carcinogens there is, therefore, universal agreement that the Acai superfood have anti-cancer properties which, regardless of the degree to which this is true, adds further validation to the previous points mentioned above.

Another claim regarding Acai berries is that their consumption can slow down aging. It seems this is another claim receiving universal agreement for two
reasons. The first comes back to the high concentration of antioxidants present in each Acai berry and the second relates, ironically, to its fat content. Antioxidants are believed to help protect cells from "free radicals". Free
radicals are molecules that have lost an electron and therefore their stability. They steal electrons from other molecules which in turn become damaged and attempt to do the same again. Since our cells are made of these, if we develop a free-radical they will continue to damage other cells. Antioxidants provide the missing electrons to the damaged molecules preventing the need for the damaged molecule to steal one from another cell. This cascading theft of electrons is a key factor behind the aging process so foods high in antioxidants are widely believed to combat and slow down the cell damage we associate as aging.

The second the Acai superfood contribution to slowing the aging process comes as a result of the prevalence of monounsaturated fat, otherwise known as "good fats" that the body can break down easily. These fats are necessary to help cells function correctly. A variety of health disorders and stresses in life can contribute to cell membrane inflammation, whilst monounsaturated fats offset this - since such inflammation is believed to be a contributor to accelerated tissue aging the presence of these fatty acids in the Acai superfood can be linked to slowing the aging process via the reduction in incidence of damaged cells.

Perhaps the most controversial of all claims related to Acai berries is whether or not Acai berries can be used for weight loss. The controversy surrounds claims that Acai berries are some kind of fat burning miracle fruit. The truth is Acai berries are a rich source of nutrients that when consumed together with a healthy lifestyle of diet, exercise and rest will naturally assist with the ahievement of a healthy weight. a healthy lifestyle will contribute to weight loss but the berries themselves have not been scientifically proven to burn fat directly. Despite a lack of controlled scientific evidence to validate the idea that the Acai superfood directly contribute to weight loss, from an indirect perspective it may very well be another story because the Acai berry is believed to contain the right nutrient
composition necessary to reduce the body's ability to store excess fat. Primarily this is attributed to the Acai berry's fiber content. Fiber is not only known for its ability to cleanse the body of unhealthy toxins but it is also useful in maintaining a healthy digestive system. Some experts argue that with a regular intake of fiber the digestive system is capable of moving food through the overall digestive process faster which, in turn, results in foods that are slow to break down being expelled from the body sooner. Since unhealthy fats cannot be broken down easily the reasoning follows that the body loses time to
process unhealthy fats and therefore is unable to store as much fat as would be the case in a low fiber diet.

Irrespective of which side of the fence you sit on regarding the above assertion, there is no question that healthy weight loss occurs not through a magic pill but in response to a healthy diet, regular exercise and adequate
rest.

The Acai superfood are reported to be a good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, B1, B2, B3, E, Iron and Calcium which together with the protein and essential amino acid content add up to equate to a great source of energy. Since
exercise requires energy, and since e the body requires the right nutrition to rebuild itself, as a health and fitness supplement, the Acai superfood are clearly beneficial and are, therefore, useful to the process of achieving optimal
health and therefore optimal weight. There are many other benefits associated to Acai berries and the vast majority of them can probably be argued to be true to at least some degree, simply because the food itself is so nutrient rich.

It is recommended you take a cautious approach to clearly exaggerated claims and that you apply common sense to your approach to the Acai superfood supplementation.
