Landfills in US and all over the world are being transformed into nature reserves and recreational grounds. Will these projects hold and create something beautiful or will they just be a disaster in the making? The Fresh kills landfill received 29000 tons in the 1980s when it was at its peak. Currently the Fresh Kills "landfill ground is studded with trees and grass. Fresh Kills Landfill is categorised into different stages of protective layers, such as a waterproof membrane, and a few meters of clean soil, make sure there isnt any leakage of landfill gas produced during decomposition of organic material, or leachate, the contaminated fluid seeping from landfills. The amusement park has a complete infrastructure of canals and wells clean lines of the gas, and so on-site leachate treatment plant. The Fresh Kills Landfill gas can be used to produce electricity, steam or heat, and can also be used as alternative fuel. This Energy production project will depend on that60% -90% collections of methane emissions, reducing both methane released into the atmosphere and eliminating CO2 emissions from fossil fuels that would otherwise be used as energy. This environmentally is a preferable solution for the excess waste that ends up in a landfill, to be recycled, composed and incinerated. If 100% of methane is captured in landfills, then the gas could be used for the production of electricity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions of about 150 million tons of CO2 per year. The implementation of this project will ensure that new Yorkers get to enjoy recreational activates in a cleaner and safer environment.
