Camping Equipment Basics For All Seasons

By:

Deciding on which Camping equipment to buy has become a science all its own. One can easily get lost amongst the mountains of Camping equipment choices that are available today. Understanding just what you are getting into, when preparing for a camping or hiking trip, is key to saving time, money, staying safe and, most importantly, insuring a stress free, well equipped trip.

Camping gear technology has become more and more advanced as synthetic materials help the gear become increasingly multi-functional. Choosing a two or perhaps even three-in-one piece of equipment is possible today. This means that needing multiple pieces of equipment for different climes is a thing of the past. This is an obvious space saver when it comes to storing all that equipment when not in use.

When it comes to choosing the right camping equipment like light backpacks, one should always be aware of the items multi-functionality. Some tents, for example, are convertible with separate parts. You can use the transparent netting to prevent unwanted bugs from crawling over you while you sleep and still have a nice view on those clear starry nights. The detachable rain cover can be quickly attached if Mother Nature decides to interrupt your stargazing.

Buying a multi-functional backpack is also possible since some bags today feature zip-off day packs. Everybody who enjoys regular outdoor activities should have at least two backpacks, one day pack and one larger hiking backpack. Some people carry the larger one on their backs and strap the smaller one in reverse on their chests for additional gear that they need to reach quickly.

Sleeping bags are a bit more complicated for use in different climates. You can make the most of them by choosing one with a relatively low temperature comfort zone. But one should make sure that it is not too low since it is always easier to throw on additional clothes rather than remove them if it gets too warm. A sleeping bag with a comfort zone of minus 21 degrees Celsius is probably only necessary if you are planning on trekking to some place like the Antarctic or Greenland.

Owning a decent backpack, sleeping bag and tent is a must, as these are considered to be the basics of camping gear. Additional camping supplies that are advisable to take a long with the basics might include a first-aid kit, water purification pills, a sewing kit, a compass, a multi-tool and something for starting fires. But remember that the basics are the foundation of any good camping experience. .
