Camper Shell Maintenance And Care

By:

You can prolong the life of your camper shell if you take care of it properly.

Equipments and devices are guaranteed to be in the best working conditions for years. Manufacturers are giving multiple years of warranties to their products. There are manufacturers who are confident with their products that they are offering lifetime warranties. Despite of the guaranteed high quality and durability of the product, proper care and maintenance are keys to long time performance of whatever equipment or device.

Camper shells are not an exception to the rule of care and maintenance. The different camper shells models and styles are manufactured under the high standards of quality production. The appearance and functional characteristics of these camper shells are made sure to meet the requirements of the customers. Manufacturers are providing instructions and suggestions for suitable ways to care and maintain them.

Be attentive on the rubber collar separating the camper shell and the cab of the pickup truck. Make sure they are kept clean and in good working conditions.

Body paint can be easily maintained if washed regularly. Use soft cloth to wipe the shell dry. The cloth should be used with water at all times. There should be a complete dryness of the camper shell after washing. This situation would prevent water spots on the surface. Snow and ice should be brushed off during winter days. Scraper is not allowed to be used on the cap, notably on the rear door glass.

Parking under trees is sometimes damaging. Saps and bird droppings scratch paints. Remove such substances immediately before they harden on the shells body.

Waxing is not recommended during the first 60 days. The use of the same wax and care products should be implemented for the truck and camper shell.

Repair paint nicks and scratches with a clear fingernail polish as the base coat of the refurbish paint. Rubbing compound and polish help capture the original finish. Products giving ultra-violet protection would be appropriate. The luster is maintained and prolongs the paint life when UV shield goods are used.
Lubricate all moving parts and accessories. Lithium-based grease should do well with maintaining moving functional parts. Penetrating oils are not advisable for door lock cylinders. Gas struts shafts should not be cleaned with lubricants or solvents.

Regularly inspect the gap between the camper shell and the pickup truck. Pay attention to the edge of the camper shell nearest to the painted surface of the truck. Make sure that there is no contact with the painted surface of the vehicle.
