Call Center

By:

Call center or call centre is a name given to an office which is used for delivering or receiving information with the help of a phone. Phone is the essential requirement in this case. Employees who work in a call center are known as call center agents or customer care agents and even customer care executives in some cases. The standard process involves using the telephone via a headset to talk with people. Call centers come under the customer relationship management theme. The type of calls coming to the call center can be either inbound (when calls come to the call center) or outbound (when calls go from the call center).

When an organization offers a service or a product, they also provide a service known as customer care or customer helpdesk. A phone number is provided for this purpose. People who buy these services or products can call on the given number known as the customer care number or the helpdesk number to avail the information or help they require. People who want to know about the product can also call on the specified number. Call center agents pick their phone and answer the query or guide the user through a solution.

Most customer care agents use a computer while providing help to the callers. The agents working in a call center use a script (mostly at the start and the end of a call) to form a way of synchronized service. Call center service is organized with supervision to provide the best service possible in the given scenario. The process of getting calls (which hit the helpline number) distributed amongst the helpdesk agents is known as the routing calls concept. There is a system of connecting calls with the agent who is available (not on call) at that particular time.

Technical call centers are call centers which deal in technical help for customers. Computers, printers, scanners and software are general examples of this type of service. Incase, the call center is not able to help the users, a local technician can be sent over to help them. Cases where local technicians are required include scenarios which have physical damage associated with products or when products require help which cannot be given via telephone.

Call centers have not only revolutionized the field of customer relationship management, but provided good job opportunities and helped the economy as well.
