Cabo de Gata is one of the largest protected areas in Andalucia on the Costa de Almeria. Due to the Parks ecological importance UNESCO declared this area a Biosphere Reserve in 1997.

Cabo de Gata has been able to keep its Spanish culture, tradition and cuisine as it has yet to become a tourist destination for the madding crowds.
