Buying The Right Toys For Your Dog

By:

Buying toys for your dog is usually a fun experience, but you should always be careful as to what toys you buy them. This article will give you some valuable information as to what to consider when buying toys for your dog.

There are many toys that are unsafe for your dog, and you should be aware of what they are. Toys that have parts on it that can be removed by your dog or that can get stuck in their throats should not be bought. Also do not purchase dog toys that have pieces that can be chewed off and eaten by your dog.

Although they look harmless, stuffed animals can be hazardous for your dog. The eyes can be chewed off and ingested by your dog. The stuffing is also unsafe for your dog if consumed. Do not purchase small balls or toys for your large dog. These can also get stuck in your dog's throat which can lead to breathing problems.

Also do not give your big dog small spongy rubber toys. It will only last a short while before chewed to pieces. It is not worth it to risk your dog's life for a few seconds of chewing pleasure. These toys should however be fine for a small dog.

Be careful of toys that have a squeaker in them " although it sound great, your dog might break out the squeaker and swallow it. Rawhide bones should also not be given to your dog as a toy, as they become soft and gooey when chewed out. Your dog can choke on this. Hooves should also be given to your dog under supervision.

Safe dog toys include hard rubber toys, especially for bigger dogs.

There are however a few toys that are safer than others. Tennis balls is usually wonderful for midsize dogs, but not for large dogs. Rope toys are also great " just mind the ones with the strings at the end. These are good for cleaning your dog's teeth, but your dog might end up chewing it off and swallowing it.

Also rotate your dog's toys on a regular basis so that they don't get used to all of them at the same time. Take out about 4-5 toys for your dog to play with at a time. But if your dog has a favorite toy, you can have it out all of the time.

Always let your dog play under supervision until you know what they are capable of. By providing your dog with safe toys and supervising them is good ways to look out for their wellbeing.
