Buying Children's Shoes

By:

When buying children's shoes, extra special care should be given. Poor fitting shoes are one of the most common cause of foot pains in children and teenagers. They tend to grow out of their shoes but still wear the poor fitting shoes.

Many parents that have children who outgrow their shoes find out that the cheap shoes serve their purpose since the child will most likely never wear them out. When selecting these shoes, parents can feel in the shoes and feel if there happens to be anything that might cause discomfort.

Because children's feet are growing they need special attention to help prevent from deformities that could happen later in life. According to the American Medical Association 50 to 80 percent of American children have some kind of foot defect that if not properly treated will lead to the need for plantar fasciitis shoes and other types of medical shoes. So when selecting your child's shoe it is wise to leave some "growing room" to allow the child's foot to be comfortable as it grows. The parent needs to watch for wearing on one spot, this may show that the shoe is not fitting correctly or too small. It's not a good idea to pass the worn shoes down to the next child because the childs shoe has molded themselves into the foot of the original wearer.

You need to examine the shoe for good quality and workmanship. Pay attention to signs for poor and careless workmanship. Make sure on the upper part there are no loose threads or seams with rough cut edges on the shoe. Check the sole stitch to ensure it is even and does not run off the edge.

Remember, low priced shoes are not always a good deal when it comes to the life of the shoe and comfort. Shoes that are comfortable tend to cost more. You should never judge durability of the shoe by the thickness of the outer sole. The durability depends on the workmanship's quality and the material used.

It is important to ensure a long life for your shoes you need to properly take care of them. However if you look at your wardrobe your shoes are the most neglected part of it. It is wise that when you purchase new shoes and that you polish them with a good polish before you wear them.

You can lengthen the life of your shoes by alternating shoes and wearing a pair one day and another pair the next day. Every now and then your shoes should be cleaned. By doing this it will remove dirt and other foreign matter.
