Buying An Acer Laptop - Things To Look For

By:

Key Features & Considerations

A laptop screen is its largest, and, obviously, most visible, component. Laptop screens are typically available between 12 and 17 inches measured diagonally with 15, or to be precise, 15.4 inches, being fairly standard. The size, and, indeed, resolution, that is most appropriate will depend on your intended use, or uses, of a laptop. If, for example, a laptop is to be used primarily for multimedia applications, such as watching films on DVD, or gaming, a large screen, with high, widescreen resolution may be most suitable. Bear in mind, however, that the larger the screen, the larger, and heavier, the laptop computer, overall.

The CPU, or Central Processing Unit, in most laptop computers consumes less power, and therefore generates less heat, but also has a slightly slower clock speed, than the processor in a typical desktop computer. This is an allowance for the smaller physical dimensions which do not allow large heat sinks, and fans to be incorporated into the chassis and lower power (that is, often, battery power), of a laptop, but, in most cases, does not lead to any discernable difference in performance. The Acer Aspire 5633WLMI Core Duo T5500 Laptop, for example, features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with a clock speed of 1.66 GHz.

The integral keyboard aside, most laptops include an input device in the form of a touchpad, trackball, or a pointing stick a small joystick, often embedded in the keyboard which replicates the functions of mouse in a conventional, desktop computer. Some of these input devices can be, shall we say, something of an acquired taste, particularly for users accustomed to a standard computer mouse. The other alternative, of course, is to attach a small, travel mouse, via a PS2, or USB, port.

Acer as a Manufacturer

Acer, a Taiwanese company, originally founded in 1976, under the name of Multitech, has evolved, from a manufacturing giant, into a global leader in information technology products and services. Acer has created a distribution, and service, network in more than 100 countries, globally, and its laptop computers are the best selling brand in Western Europe. Acer laptops the Acer Aspire, and Acer TravelMate, ranges, amongst them are renowned for their innovative design, ease of use, and affordable price.

Conclusion

A laptop computer is, nowadays, a realistic, affordable alternative to a desktop computer, offering the same features and functionality, but with the obvious advantages of portability, say, between home and office and easy, wireless connection to networks in each, if need and the possibility of use, away from mains power, whilst travelling between the two.
