Buying Advice For Led Tape

Buying Tips for LED Tape

LED Tape is fast becoming the lighting of choice for the entertainment, hospitality and retail industries. It is quickly replacing older forms of effects lighting due to its compact and flexible design, energy efficiency and longer lifespan. However, once you've discovered LED Tape there are a few things you need to consider before making your purchase. LED Tape is highly customizable and available in a few different variations. These include LED size, LEDs per meter, colour and IP ratings. When you are choosing LED Tape it is important to make sure you are buying the right product for the right application.

"There are two fundamental questions you should be asking yourself when you are buying LED Tape; what effect are you trying to achieve and where are you trying to achieve it? Things like LED size, brightness, LED per meter and colour all fall under the aegis of context and desired effect."
LED Size

Our LED Tape is available in two main LED sizes; 50mm by 50mm and 35mm by 28mm. These figures refer to the length and breadth of the individual SMD LEDs on the LED Tape. The key difference between these types of LED Tape are the type of light that they produce. Larger LEDs will produce a more consistent spread of light, while smaller LEDs create a more jagged and intermittent lighting effect. The second factor is wattage, as larger LED sizes consume more power and may require additional transformers. When designing your set up, it is always worth bearing power consumption in time.

LEDs per meter

Our LED Tape is available in a 30 LED and 60 LED per meter. While the differences between the two types of LED Tape are apparent, the reasons for using one over the other are not always clear. LED Tape with 60 LEDs per meter produce a light that is a lot more powerful. This makes them suitable for use during daylight or in illuminated areas as their light achieves better penetration and will not be lost in the background. So if you are setting up a high street shop display that will be lit during the daytime, or if you are using your LED Tape as background or accent lighting in a well lit room, 60 LED per meter will make sure their effects is not lost.

30 LED per meter LED Tape is suitable for use in dark environments or during the night. It isn't necessary to use 60 LED per meter if your LED Tape is not having to compete with more general illumination. In a dark environment, such as inside a dark club, 60 LED/meter LED Tape will appear too bright and overbearing. 30 LED/meter will be able to meet your requirements easily and will also save you on energy.

Choosing the right LED per meter for your LED Tape is quite important as the number of LEDs per meter affects the wattage of the Tape. If 30 LED per meter can meet your requirements then it won't be necessary to use 60 LED per meter as you will be needlessly upping your wattage, which may need additional transformers.

IP Rating

The effects lighting that we sell can be divided into two main categories; LED Tape and LED Strip Lights. The difference between these two is that LED Strip Lights come with an IP rated 'splash proof' coating that makes them suitable for use anywhere they might be exposed to moisture. So where and how you are using your LED Tape is an important point of consideration when you are buying.

Colour

The final thing to consider is the colour of your LED Tape. Once again, the colour you choose depends upon context and desired effect. Our LED Tape is available in three main colours; Warm White, Cool White and programmable RGB. Warm and Cool White each hold their own merits when used as ambient lighting, but the differences are quite pronounced. Warm white is very soft while Cool White is more intense. Both can be used to achieve a consistent lighting effect and lend definition to an interior space. The wattage per meter with these types of LED Tape is consistent.

Progammable RGB is better for achieving more vibrant and exciting colourful effects. They can be set to a single colour or programmed to create a colourful sequence.

Getting these decisions correct is the first step to creating the most effective and efficient lighting set up in your business and home. Always make sure you are not needlessly increasing the wattage of your set up. This can be best achieved by keeping the advantages of different types of LED Tape in mind when you are buying.
