The original Honda CRV was introduced in 1995 as a Sports Utility Vehicle and today it is a sharp yet smoothly contoured crossover type car that is reckoned, by many, to be one of the best 4x4s on the market, making it ideal for off the beaten track, all terrain work.
There is an excellent range of choice when buying a
new Honda CRV as there are five different trims to decide between, ranging from the entry level SE+ right up to the top of the range EX. In between can be found the SE+T, the ES and the ES-T. All trims come with a very good range of equipment as standard, with those at the more expensive end of the model range being fitted with cutting edge equipment to complement the standard offerings.
All models have a choice of powerful petrol or diesel engines. The petrol engines available are a 2.0 litre i-VTECH, which with manual transmission for the SE+ achieves a combined fuel economy of 34.9 mpg; the automatic transmission version delivers a fractionally lower 34.4 mpg. The 2.0 litre diesel i-DTECH delivers 43.5 mpg, with its automatic cousin coming in at 38.2 mpg. There is little or no variation in fuel economy for the other models, making the CRV good value for money in terms of how often it will need to be refilled.
The car handles well, provides a comfortable ride and has excellent safety features as standard on all models. These include five three point seat belts, emergency brake assist, dual front and side airbags, Antilock Braking System, roll-over protection, side impact protection beams and electronic brake force distribution. Add in ISOFIX childseat restraint mechanism, front seat belt reminder and vehicle stability assist, together with other safety features and it is easy to understand the premium Honda puts on vehicle safety.
Standard in-car entertainment is provided by a stereo CD tuner with RDS, there are front and rear speakers and an auxiliary socket for MP3 connection. At the top of the range, the EX has voice recognition DVD Satellite Navigation with traffic Message Channel, a subwoofer and tweeters and a Bluetooth hands free telephone system.
Front and rear electric windows come as standard, as does manual air-conditioning, hydraulic power assisted steering, a front power socket, intermittent front and rear wipers and dual auto climate control. There are many other extras available, with which to further enhance the already impressive levels of comfort and convenience.
The Honda CRV delivers power, comfort, safety and stability in a stylish, sculpted body.
