Buying A Business Briefcase

By:

The ultimate organizer that any successful businessperson must possess is a business case (also known as a brief case). Many business cases are designed to carry laptops while others are designed to be simply ergonomically correct. No matter the purpose of a business case, they are available in both classic and fashionable designs. The brief cases of today offer more sections, pockets and compartments than ever before.

Available in a wide array of materials and styles, business cases may be found ranging from traditional leather attach cases with grips to wheeled cases that are pulled, not carried. The latest convenient feature added to brief cases is the capability of using a laptop with out removing it from the case.

Before buying a new business case there are a few guide lines to consider.

Material
It is normal to have markings and color variations in the leather. Look at the label to find out what sort of leather the case is made from. Certain leathers have a high price tag such as full-grain or exotic. Leather will require care to keep the leather supple. Keep in mind that leather can scratch and can be gouged. There are many strong fabrics used for making brief cases. Though not a fashionable as leather, fabric may be easier to care for and holds up extremely well.

Solid Build
To check how solidly built a business case is twist the case slightly while checking for wobbling from side to side. Make sure that the top and bottom of the case is in line, closes properly and latches securely. Assure that the bottom of the case is solid to prevent sagging when filled.

Lock
Check the types of lock on the business case. Are the locks solid metal, die cast metal or less expensive plastics? Does the case shut appropriately so that the locks are capable of performing properly? Try locking and unlocking the case to assure that the lock does work. If you will be carrying a laptop and using it while in the case, check to be sure that the case will stay in an open position so as to not interfere while you work.

Handles
The handle of the business case must be strong enough to hold the weight of the filled case. It should fit the hand and be comfortable enough to carry the case for extended periods. If the handle is leather be aware it will tend to soften and stretch over time.

Edges
Check the edges of the business case to look for separation. You will want the edges to be smooth and tightly joined.

Color
Rub the surface of the leather to assure that the color does not rub off.

Stitching
Look for even stitches that do not run to the very edge of the business case. Make sure there are no broken stitches.

Summary
When choosing a business case look for one that will serve your needs. Pay attention to the construction quality including the material used, the lock, the handle, color fastness, and how well finished the case is. A quality built business case will serve for many years to come.
