Buy Absinthe And Learn The Traditional Ritual

By:

When choosing to buy absinthe, it is important to understand how to prepare the drink correctly as many people believe that is a huge part of drinking absinthe. Here in this article we look at how to prepare and drink absinthe correctly to ensure you get the most out of this superb drink.

Traditionally absinthe is prepared by placing a sugar cube on a specially designed spoon. The spoon is usually known as a slotted spoon and allows liquids to pass through but keeps solids on top. Place the spoon on top of your glass that has been filled with a shot of absinthe.

Then slowly pour ice cold water over the sugar cube so that the water is carefully displaced into the absinthe. Many people agree that once you buy absinthe and are practising this ritual that you should dilute the drink to a ratio of 3:1 or 5:1. Obviously you can experiment with how strong you want your drink to be but it advised to start at around here if you are drinking the absinthe for the first time.

Once the water has been poured into the absinthe you will notice that the components within the drink such as the anise, fennel and star anise will come out of the solution and cloud the drink. The addition of water is important as it causes the herbs to 'blossom' and brings out many of the flavours that can be lost in the anise and it is advised for those who want to buy absinthe and try it that they do this.

Originally when you buy absinthe in a bar the waiter would serve a large dose of absinthe ice water in a carafe with the sugar kept separately. This meant that the drinker could prepare the drink to their preference. As the drink got far more popular the absinthe fountain, which was made up of a large jar of ice water on a base with spigots became used. This allowed many drinks to be prepared at once with a hands free drip. This meant the drinker could socialise whilst their drink became cloudy.

As well as being drunk with water over sugar you can buy absinthe cocktails in bars. Absinthe has been a common cocktail ingredient in the United Kingdom and United States and is still popular today. One of the most popular cocktails is Ernest Hemingway's 'Death in the Afternoon cocktail' which contains absinthe and champagne.
