Business Leads: Self-substance Tips For Small Business Owners

By:

Whether you are operating a brick-and-mortar store or you do business completely online, keeping your business consistently well fed can drain your budget in a hurry if you don't have a proper plan of attack in place. Yes, actively marketing to new prospects is a necessary part of growing your business. However, marketing to a fresh and untouched audience is also the most expensive approach and features the highest failure rate (lowest prospect-to-customer conversion rate). Give your closing rate a significant boost by focusing your efforts on your business leads.

You do have the option of buying leads as fodder for your marketing. However, one of the paramount elements that factors into the quality of a lead and influences the probability of closing the sale is exclusivity. These lead lists are usually sold multiple times to competing businesses which means your leads may have already been called dozens of times before you even make your first contact. Buying a lead versus generating your own can be compared to purchasing a used car from a dealer versus buying from a family member: You probably won't get a complete history of the car if you buy from a dealer whereas you'll know the full history if you buy from family.

Prospect-to-customer conversion rates are directly linked to the degree of competition. The fewer the number of competing businesses in direct communication with your lead, the better your chances are of successfully converting them to a client. The most effective means of capturing exclusive leads with less competition is to generate your own. Generating your own exclusive leads not only increases your probability of converting more prospects to paying customers, it also grants you a prime opportunity to save a significant amount of money through self-subsistence marketing versus continuously buying leads.

Generating your own leads grants you complete control in regards to how you capture and use the data you collect. Granted, exclusive doesn't necessarily imply that your prospect isn't in communication with your competitors. But it does imply interest, and more importantly, it indicates permission to contact them (unless otherwise stated in your privacy policy or terms of service). Consumers are often surprised by businesses cold calling them in regards to personal information which was believed to be private and unavailable to the public. Few things kill sales potential more than a prospect's discovery that their personal information is being used without their direct consent. You have a better chance of making a sale when your prospect feels completely comfortable and in control. If they actively provided you with their personal information they will be significantly more receptive to your business offer.

Generate your own exclusive leads and you will essentially create a private audience for your marketing. Maintain a database of all your leads, contact your leads while they're fresh, keep following up with them until they buy from you or demand that you stop contacting them, market to them with future upsells, and grow your business at record-breaking speed.
