Business Energy: Powering Your Business

By:

Any enterprise will have its share of ups and downs, and the best way to keep afloat is to remain competitive by bringing down overhead production costs. Production costs are the expenses that you incur during the manufacture of your goods or services, and high on the list of such expenses are power charges be it manpower or energy charges.

Lowering Your Energy Costs

Bringing down the costs for manpower is not just unethical, it is highly possible that it is illegal as well. The only alternative would be to work on lowering gas and power charges. While working on that, you might as well make use of the newer and better "green energy" alternatives available in today's market.

At the onset of the energy source shifting it will cost you a pretty penny, but in the long run, it will be better for the business and the ecology. Here are a few alternative power sources that have developed exponentially since the price of petrol has gone up:

1.Biofuels also known as biodiesel. This is the easiest alternative energy source to shift to, primarily because there are no need for extensive changes in machinery. If something can run on fossil fuel diesel, it can run on biodiesel. The only difference is that biodiesel is renewable and non pollutant.

2.Sun, Water, and Air there are now many advances in harnessing these sources of energy, which are essentially free. It is the technology that will make a dent in the business budget. However, once these are up and running, the money invested to put them in will save the business a lot of money in the long run. Solar energy is best for large manufacturing plants with a lot of south facing roof. For wind energy, the business must have enough space to place the turbines in, and last but not the least, businesses with offices or factories near bodies of water should invest in a micro hydro generator.

Do not Just Lower, Save

Some businesses do not have the necessary resources for these energy source shifts, and that is probably the reason those businesses would want to shave off a few pounds from their expenses. In such cases, instead of looking for other sources, it may be better to plug up the leaks and changes the wires.

It may not seem much a few buckets of water, a small draft from a broken window, or a little wasted energy from old wires until all these expenses add up to quite a chunk at the end of the fiscal year. The good thing is that fixing these little problems will not make a big dent in the budget, and it can be done a little at a time. The bonus that a business will get from working up the place is that its employees will feel that management cares for them and want to improve their work area. A bit of appreciation from management will always bring up the productivity in any business.
