Bus Graphics: Mobile Billboards

By:

No one who goes out to travel on land will be unfamiliar to the billboard. This is a form of promotional media that are considered to be out-of-the-home or outdoor advertising. Typically, a person who lives in a major city will see around a hundred billboards every week, but will not remember every single one of them. This person will also usually dismiss the billboards as part of the background a few days after they are installed. This is why there advertisers and creative agencies must find new ways to deliver their selling messagesnovel ways that will not be easily dismissed as part of the background.

This is where bus graphics comes in. Dubbed as mobile billboards, this form of vehicle wraps is gaining popularity with advertising professionals mainly because of their novelty. In advertising, novelty is an important quality that a medium should havethe fresher the medium is, the better attention the consumers will pay to it. Bus graphics are not as common as TV commercials or stationary billboards, and whenever the consumers see one with vehicle wraps rolling along their bus route, they stop for a moment and take the advertisement in.

Like traditional billboards, bus graphics should contain more images than words because the target market does not have a lot of time to take in the written message. It takes six seconds to digest a stationary billboard, and it will probably take less time to read one written on a mobile billboard. Six words or less is recommended by advertising experts for bus graphics.

Bus graphics are aimed at pedestrians, drivers, cyclists, and bikers, and it is important that these bus graphics are noticeable but not distracting enough to get people into accidents. Boring bus graphics are definitely a waste of money, but something with too much cleverness will just puzzle the target market. Complex visual metaphors and other semiotic acrobatics should be avoided all the timea perfect balance of smartness and cleverness should always be achieved. A single bus graphics will not work as effectively as, say, three vehicle wraps in the same bus route. By having more buses in vehicle wraps, the number of people who will see the bus graphics campaign will significantly increase.

Vehicle wraps are definitely the new, novel, and cool form of outdoor advertisingefficient, effective, and not as expensive as the traditional forms of promotional media.
