Burn Belly Fat The Basics Of Fat Loss

Burn Belly Fat The Basics Of Fat Loss

By:

If you are just starting a weight loss program and fast fat loss is your goal, then contrary to what most people think, going for long, extended endurance runs is NOT the best method for burning fat. That is not to say, however, that running is bad. By all means, if you enjoy running, keep doing it! Going on longer runs still helps improve cardiovascular endurance and burns calories, which would otherwise get stored as fat, so it's definitely much better than not doing anything at all. Before I talk more about which type of exercises to do in order to lose stomach fat, let me try to break down why exercise and eating healthy are necessary for burning fat (other than the obvious)...

OK, so the basic rule for losing stomach fat is really simple: Your calorie expenditure has to be greater than your calorie consumption. In other words, you should be burning more calories than you eat each day. *Note* a calorie is really just a measure of how much energy any given amount of food provides for your body. So for example, if you eat a piece of bread that is 100 calories then that piece of bread provides 100 units of energy to your body (obviously your body needs energy to maintain basic functions such as breathing, digestion, etc.). So calories are a good thing. However, when we eat more calories than our body needs, the leftover nutrients get stored in the body as fat. If we consume enough calories over an extended period of time, then we get really fat.

Now the opposite is also true. If we eat less than our body needs over a long period of time, our body will use up all of its fat stores for energy and eventually begin to waste away.

So the bottom line is that in order to burn fat while maintaining- or even building- muscle, we need to eat the right amount of calories to provide our bodies with enough energy to function but not so much that there are leftovers to get stored as fat.

For the most effective fat burning workouts, most people should be doing a combination of weight training and interval training. Most of you are probably pretty familiar with weight training, but you might not be as familiar with interval training in order to lose stomach fat. Basically, interval training is a type of cardio exercise where you rotate periods of intense activity and much less intense recovery time. So for example, you might sprint for 30 seconds followed by 60 seconds of slow jogging or even walking. Then repeat several more times. Most interval workouts would have you repeat this anywhere from 6-8 times (even more as you progress). Keep in mind that you don't necessarily have to run in order to do intervals. You could substitute running with swimming, biking, jumping rope, etc. just as long as you keep to that interval pattern of high intensity followed by low intensity recovery time.

This sort of cardio vamps up your metabolism so that you're burning even more fat during each workout than during endurance runs, and it keeps your metabolism higher than usual for up to 48 hours after your workout. In other words, after interval training, your body will be in prime shape to lose stomach fat even though youre not working out.
In contrast, going for longer, slower endurance runs will not have this same effect. Sure, you'll certainly be burning some calories during the run, but as soon as you finish, that's
it.
