Buried Treasure: Tips For Locating Big Finds

By:

Did you know that there's a lot of buried treasure in the world? Today there are still billions and billions of dollars in actual treasure that has not been located and it could be buried right there under the ground where you are standing.

For centuries people have been known to hide and bury things from others - particularly treasure. There are a lot of people in this country, which means that today there are probably more things buried underground than ever before. More people means more buried treasure! The real question is though, why is so much of this buried treasure still buried and hidden away? The answer to that question is that most of the people who buried that treasure are long gone from this earth.

Or, perhaps they buried something and then moved away, forgetting to take their treasure. Or, there are criminals who bury their stash that get convicted and sent away to prison for their crimes. But still the saddest scenario, and the one most commonly identified, is that the person who buried the treasure is now dead and buried as well. Many people die all over the earth with secrets that they never shared with another soul, and sometimes those secrets include information as to where they buried their hidden treasures.

Good Locations for Finding Buried Treasure

A lot of people used to bury their valuables or money even underneath the edge of sidewalks, driveways or other slabs of cement back when pouring cement like this was a fairly new concept. You can identify buried treasure by looking for asphalt that has sagged. While the cement itself is too solid to sag, it is easy to identify buried treasure when the soil loosens around asphalt over time.

Also look in areas that wouldn't be very visible to nosy neighbors or passers by out on the road. It is unlikely that someone would bury their prized possessions or treasure out in the front yard for everyone to see. Try to think like the person who buried it and figure out where you could dig in private and start using your metal detector to scan or probe the general area.

A lot of people used to bury things in gardens as well. In fact, you will regularly find jars full of jewelry and money buried deep in the loose and soft soil of a garden. When looking at old properties, make sure to look for signs of an old garden area. Use your metal detector to scan those areas well. While you won't get a signal from paper money or cash stowed away, most people use a jar with a metal top or a coffee can to bury things.

Children will sometimes bury their treasures and forget where they put it after a year or so. However adults will tend to bury important items near markers that will help them find it again later, such as criminals that used to bury items near signs alongside a road. Think about what could be deemed as a marker to someone. Look at a wide and open area that might make it difficult to bury and then find something that was hidden.

You will also be able to notice dips or lumps within the yard's surface that might indicate that something was buried underground. This is because the soil will usually settle once a hole is filled and leveled. If the item was too big and all the soil didn't fit back in the hole properly, you might notice a mound as well. Just be careful and know in advance that this happens as well when people bury their dead dogs and cats, so make sure to use your metal detector before you start digging to avoid finding something you won't want to see.
