People put the accent either on the first syllable or on the second syllable with a long I. Torment is how they call it because the sounds just will not go away. Tinnitus refers to any annoying noise in the ear that is not precipitated by any external factor.

Swedish researchers gave a caution on the hazards of noise laden toys for children. Research shows that squeaky rubber squeeze toys placed near the ear can range as high as 108 decibels.
