Buildings And Structures In The Gardening Design

By:

With camera and books in hand, a gardener is well on the way to finding the appropriate items to add to the gardening design. Putting it all down on paper is preferred to making costly errors and having to remove them. Most structures used in gardens are permanent ones so should be carefully planned.

To avoid spending a lot of time looking for an item one needs, making a place for it in the first place is a good idea. All of those small but necessary things like nozzles and sprinklers, pots and stick markers can be hosed in a greenhouse with workroom attached or even a potting room or shed. It is also a handy place for starting seeds each late winter, and placing them under grow lights.

Cars are usually kept in garages, but if all the garden paraphernalia is stored in there, there may not be room for the vehicle. Finding a home for all of that equipment is important for that reason, among others. A potting shed or room can have places to tuck away all those handy little gadgets that seem to find their way into the garage.

A great addition to a home that sports only a concrete patio or pad outside its door, is a pergola. This structure is open on top, with some cross beams for support. Plants are often hung from these beams. The open walls are many times filled with living vines and tall plantings to create an outside room. Take care to choose appropriate plantings or you will be fighting to keep it from taking over entirely.

To add interest to a yard-scape, many folks build arches on which to grow many different kinds of flowers. Shapes are not just curved, however, and can be seen as towers of various sizes. Seating is often part of these structures and have beautifully curved walkways or paths drawing one to them. Especially if built in a larger yard, with lots of taller plantings, a path leading around a curve can open up onto a lovely surprise of a flower-laden arch.

When seen from a window in the house, the garden swing is a beckoning sight. Made of many different materials, they can be free-standing and movable or permanently built to the ground. Either way, flowers are probably growing in profusion and covering the top and sides with colorful blossoms.

The tinkle of water spilling over carefully placed rocks and flowing gently down the pebble covered stream bed may draw one to it often. Add to that scene the evening fire built in a fire pit of choice, and fire and water will become a favorite effect in the gardening design.
